Spinal Cord Injury Fellowship Application Process

Thank you for your interest in our Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Fellowship Program here at the University of California, Irvine and VA Long Beach Healthcare System.

Certification in spinal cord injury medicine is offered to physicians of all ABMS member boards, particularly from specialties directly related to the care of persons with spinal cord injury whose physicians wish to be certified in SCI (e.g. physical medicine & rehabilitation, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, neurological surgery, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, plastic surgery, and urology).

In addition, please submit your application with the documents listed below: 

  • Updated Curriculum Vitae
  • Photo
  • Personal Statement (motivation for pursuing a career in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine) 
  • Dean's Letter
  • Medical school transcript
  • USMLE or COMLEX transcripts: Steps/Levels 1 – 3
  • Three letters of recommendation (dated within the last six months and mailed directly from the author)

Interviews are held during the months of August, September and October. It is recommended that applicants submit a completed application and supporting documentation on or before Aug. 10, 2018. 

Our SCI Medicine Fellowship Program accepts applications from international medical graduates who have received their ECFMG letter from the California Medical Board. International medical graduates should contact the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates for detailed requirements.
